Jacque Johnson E-RYT 200 ,RYT 500 has over 20 years of experience teaching yoga, in Sivananda yoga, Restorative yoga, and Viniyoga, and is currently finishing studies in Yoga Therapy, 500RYT. She has been faculty at GWU since 2000, Department of Exercise Science, in the area of body image and weight, as well as health promotion. She is co-faculty for the Yoga Education Program at GWU, a 200RYT program. Jacque is an active person who enjoys running and hiking. As a public health professional and college professor, her research and academic interests are in body image, weight perceptions, weight/ fat-acceptance, eating disorders, sleep disturbances, and stress management. Jacque currently is assisting with research using wireless EEG technology monitoring brain waves during yoga activities, (asana, pranayama, kriya, chanting, meditation).

Alice Sevivas E-RYT 200, LMT  has been in the wellness field for over 20 years teaching and offering the art of massage therapy, movement and meditation while working in private practice, medical, fitness and spa industry.Alice is certified massage therapist, licensed with the Virginia Board of Nursing, also E-RYT 200 Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher. Her journey began at Kripalu with Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training & certification with Janice Clarfield who teaches internationally. Alice is certified to teach Seniors and Kids. She created a YogAngels, YogAnimals & YogActors program to deliver age appropriate yoga to kids from babies to teens. She is rooted in her Vinyasa Style of training, certified with YogaFit International. Training with mentors Beth Shaw and Seane Corne, she continues to live the lifestyle and teach from the heart.Her heart is focused on specialty yoga classes created for for diabetes, anxiety and chronic pain and helping her clients find that space for awareness and healing.
She has a vision for her clients to approach their wellness walk with a holistic intention. Some of her most memorable experiences were practicing post sports massage with runners at the Boston Marathon, working with dancers at Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. (under Body Dynamics, Inc. massage therapy program), and working to improve the quality of life with a dynamic 55 and older community as the Fitness & Wellness Director at Four Seasons of Historic Virginia. 

Pat Fitzsimmons,RN,E-RYT 200 ,RYT 500, has always been a seeker of body and mind wellness. Working in health care for many years Pat started practicing yoga in 1994. She did her teacher training in 2006 in the Integral Yoga tradition with Swami Ramananda, president of the San Francisco Integral Yoga Institute and has also studied Reiki. Her classes are taught in an easeful, meditative manner. The student is guided to a deep level of physical and mental well-being,vitality and relaxation,promoting flexibility,strength and health for the entire system.
Pat spends as much time as she can at Satchidananda Ashram, Buckingham,Va. deepening her knowledge of yoga and how it can help others. She is a member of the Integral Yoga Teacher's Association,Yoga Alliance and The International Association of Yoga Therapists.

Assistant Instructors
Marilyn Pepper-Citizen RYT 200 has been involved in the fitness industry since 1991 having taught group fitness at military installations in Virginia, Georgia, and New Mexico. In addition to group fitness, she has held personal trainer and weight training certifications. Her love of yoga began when a friend invited her to a YogaFit workshop in 1997. She went on to take several other yoga workshops and practiced on her own. In 2010 she traveled to Arizona to complete her 200RYT training at the Yahweh Teaching Academy (, a registered Yoga Alliance institution and the world’s first and only exclusively Christian yoga teaching academy to achieve status as a private, post-secondary education institution. She traveled to North Carolina to participate in the Hallelujah Lifestyle program for a full immersion in changing to and preparing a plant-based, mostly living foods diet. Marilyn has also received extensive training in therapeutic grade essential oils from the Center for Aromatherapy and Research Education. She is working on a PhD in public policy with a specialization in interdisciplinary policy studies that she hopes to finish in 2014. Marilyn is dedicated to providing classes that fit participant's needs and is passionate about enabling others to experience mind, body and soul health. 

Barbara Cox RYT 200,  After losing her home & animals in an electrical fire, Barbara took a whirlwind spin into depression that lasted about two years. It was at this point in her life she found yoga. Yoga reminded her of who she truly is, restoring happiness and balance to her life. She now experiences a stronger and more flexible body, which has significantly reduced her back pain & sciatica to manageable levels. Barbara received her 200 RYT certification through Thrive Yoga in Rockville and will be completing her 500 RYT certification in November. She is certified to teach Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Restorative and Yoga Nidra in the Baron Baptiste, and ISTHA traditions. Her current area of study and interest is in Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda where it is her wish and desire to share the life transforming effects of yoga with others. You will find her classes dynamically challenging with a focus on the importance of breath (pranayama) and meditation.

What to expect?

An experience of a lifetime in Yoga School, building a vision for your future while deepening a personal practice, developing a creative style of teaching, immersion in science, philosophy, technique and the ART of YOGA while learning a holistic approach to yoga instruction. This program will encompass Hatha, Vinyasa, Viniyoga, Integral and Restorative style to embrace a Holistic Style of Yoga. Your instructors have years of combined experience and expertise in the field. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the balance of work, family, school and the upcoming holiday time off with our 6 month fall/winter session. 

Training schedule
